Highlights

The was something that was so regal and exceptionally elegant about Zang Toi’s collection, from the gold-embroidered velvet coats and stoles to the Elizabethan hairstyles on the female models and every shade of black, brown and grey in between. One of his male models even wore a top hat for crying out loud, Toi’s collection was a moving period piece of the royal persuasion that transported its beholder(s) back to an era gone by and the standing ovation bestowed upon the designer after the final walk was very well deserved. CZAR by Cesar Galindo was another standout show, very unusual yet brilliant. That one red gown from the finale of Noon by Noor still haunts me. The infinity zipper belts from ICB by Prabal Gurung were interestingly memorable as were the iron-clad shimmering gowns from Falguni and Shane Peacock. I also loved Naeem Khan’s collection of predominantly evening wear, as I described it in my ‘LIVE TWEETS’ from NYFW on Twitter, this was one of the most focused & complete collections I saw. Khan does high-octane glamour very well, he understands the female physique and wants nothing but to drape it in endless splendour and fabric fluidity. This was another collection that featured heavy embroidery detailing and bead work and every suit, every gown, every kaftan he showcased would certainly turn heads at any red carpet event. The playfulness and retro vibe from Anna Sui’s colourful collection and the adorable wackiest glamour of Betsey Johnson’s semi-fitness collection also caught my eye as notable and on the flip side of that I absolutely adored the classic collections of Rebecca Minkoff (one of the few designers who employed a LIVE band to play during their display), Jenny Packham, Badgley Mishka, DVF, Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier, Tadashi Shoji, Pamella Roland & Nicole Miller.
