Loyal customers bid sad farewell to Loehmann’s

The end of an era. Pretty sure Freida Loehmann is rolling in her grave. =(

NEW YORK (PIX11) – It was a day of spectaculars buys, and goodbyes to an institution that started in Brooklyn in 1921 by a woman named Frieda Loehmann.

Loehmann’s,  like Daffys and Filenes Basement before it, closed its doors for good on Wednesday.

“I’ve been shopping at Loehmann’s for 55 years, and it hurts,” said Mimi Keller,  who walked sadly by the going out of business signs in front of Loehmann’s upper west side location.

“My friend told me Loehmann’s was closing so I thought I would come to pay my respects,” said Marcy Sacks who dropped by the store in Chelsea.

Known for its deep discounts on designer clothes, and its so-called  back room with even higher end merchandise, Loehmann’s filed for its third and final bankruptcy in December.

Its going out of business sales took place in all 39 stores in 11 states.  The company…
